How to calculate curtain fabric

We will show you how to calculate how much fabric you need to order to make your own curtains.

Pencil pleat curtains

Width of pole or track x 2 = Fullness.

Fullness divided by width of fabric = Number of widths required.

Drop length + 30cm for hems = Cutting length.

Number of widths x cutting length = Amount of fabric you need.

Pinch pleat curtains

Pinch pleats give a fuller effect than pencil pleats. When calculating fabric quantities, multiply the pole or track width by 2.5 instead of 2.

Repeat pattern fabric

If the fabric you will be using for your curtains has a repeat pattern, some additional considerations will help make sure the pattern reproduces correctly on the curtains, (please callĀ  0131 339 3292 if help is required).

Cutting length divided by the PR (pattern repeat) Round this figure up to a whole number if you need to.

Multiply this number by the PR = New cutting length including the PR.

Multiply this by the number of widths required = This is the amount of fabric required for your curtains.
